Brief Introduction
N103LF, is a two seat experimental airplane (RV-9A) I built from a kit supplied by Van's Aircraft (builder #91048). I began my project in October 2004 in my garage. Due to my wife's job change, in August 2005 the project was moved to a hangar at the Greater Portsmouth Regional Airport (KPMH) at Minford, Ohio. I moved to Portsmouth in January 2006 and dedicated full time on the project. On August 15th, 2006, three gentlemen from the Cincinnati FSDO (FAA) inspected the airplane and gave me the blessing (airworthiness certificate). First flight followed immediately on the 16th. 40 hours phase one flight test was complete in a month on September 14th. Since then, I have enjoyed the freedom of flying with this wonderful airplane.
N103LF has an empty weight of 1084lb. It cruises at 153 ktas (176 mph true air speed) at 2400 rpm. On takeoff it climbs at above 1500 fpm. Detailed performance data and specifications of RV-9A can be found here: RV-9 data.
I don't intend to make this website a detailed builder log. There are several excellent RV builder logs out there. I will present only important (at least for me) information to share with my fellow builders and pictures and videos to share with friends. Since I am flying my RV, most of the updates on this site are about maintenance and trip reports. See "My own pages" section below for details.
